For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. http://bible.us/Heb9.24.NLT
6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens,
look at the earth beneath;
the heavens will vanish like smoke,
the earth will wear out like a garment
and its inhabitants die like flies.
But my salvation will last forever,
my righteousness will never fail.
This past week was utterly amazing for me. After all the struggles of the past few weeks dealing with my car accident, getting to go home and spend time with my family and some longtime friends was great medicine. I was able to see my son play music in front of people in a little Mexican place where we enjoyed great food and just getting to hang out. I was also able to spend time with my little one year old Grandson which was absolutely the highlight of my trip. He is just precious and still so innocent.
But eventually the trip had to end. Karla and I got back Sunday evening tired and drained. But at the same time we were glad to be back home with our animals and our little granddaughter, Tinky. After unpacking and getting ourselves sorted out, we sat down for a short evening. During that time my heart began to sink. “Oh no, the real world starts again tomorrow!”
With Monday’s morning came all the worries, struggles, and issues we had left just one week prior. Work loomed over me as I struggled to catch up with all the goings on while I was absent. To this day I still haven’t managed to do so. I returned to multiple doctor visits and physical therapy sessions, and just the constant chaos of trying to maintain a normal life.
All this continued right through today when I was awakened at about 4 am with nagging pain in my shoulder and back. It was horrific. What a way to start your day.
As the day progressed I started getting text messages from my son that he was struggling with his Mother. (My ex) I tried to reel him in. Then I remembered a verse that one of my former high school friends had posted on Facebook this morning. So I asked him to take a deep breath and read it:
1 Corinthians 13:3-5
3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
I don’t know if he read it or if it even helped. But I knew that God had led me back to this verse I had read earlier today to give him direction from His word.
Vacations are nice. They help us to get some physical rest that we need as well as relief from the mental strains of life. But life is still there when you return. It doesn’t go away. It doesn’t stop just because you do either. It goes on and on until the day God determines it goes no more.
But through all the struggles we face in our day-to-day living experience one thing stands true, our God reigns forever. When this world fails to exist, God will still be there. When all have left this world, God will still exist. Even when the universe desolves from the sky, God will still be God.
As hard as it is to get through the days of our lives here on this earth, we must stand fast in the hope and truth that our God reigns forever. And if we hold on to that hope and faith, then when our time here ends we too will be in His presence and His Glory will shine all around us. That is when we will find true rest and an eternal vacation, completely removed and permanently dissolved from all of the worries and strife of this earth.
Father, I pray at this moment for all who read this article today. That you might move in their lives and help them to lean more strongly on you. I pray that in the midst of life’s struggles, we all stand fast in the hope and truth that you hold a better place for us in Glory. Calm our spirits and help us to lean more upon your word. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
A cat dies and goes to Heaven.
God meets him at the gate and says, “You have been a good cat all of these years. Anything you desire is yours, all you have to do is ask.”
The cats says, “Well, I lived all my life with a poor family on a farm and had to sleep on hardwood floors.”
God says, “Say no more.” And instantly, a fluffy pillow appears.
A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and they go to Heaven. God meets them at the gate with the same offer that He made the cat.
The mice said, “All our lives we’ve had to run. Cats, dogs and even women with brooms have chased us. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn’t have to run anymore.”
God says, “Say no more.” And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates.
About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is doing. The cat is sound asleep on his new pillow. God gently wakes him and asks, “How are you doing? Are you happy here?”
The cat yawns and stretches and says, “Oh, I’ve never been happier in my life. And those Meals on Wheels you’ve been sending over are the best!”
